I have a USB stick that I can edit so I will try this and report back. I did what was suggested, boot a Live CD and install onto another USB. Because the sticks I have are only 8GB I need to use a Fedora Server live CD to get the install size to fit. KE did not fit for example. I got as far are replacing lvm vgchange --monitor y with sleep 30. And the stick then boots.
