I changed that following using the prescribed routine and the change
appears to be as requested:

hosts: files dns myhostname
# hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns myhostname

J restarted the computer since there was no improvement in the network
browser display of SMB.
And years ago my isp insisted that we all use their DNS, I have used
whatever they provided, presently the isp is owned by Viasat. The dns
seems to work for me.
