It was an SD card. I have seen various bug reports about the newer categories, which, from the given logs, appears to be the case here. The problem appears to be related to U1 or U2 modes. Usually it only involves not being able to recognize or read the card. It's a rather surprising interaction to take out the entire usb system.
This last bit is also my attitude.
I can understand an SD card failing, but reliably taking out the USB system is what I have a problem with.
The fact that a reset did not bring up the machine in a good state, needing a power off/on, leads me
to suspect the mobo.
The fact that booting f30 and f32 live images did not do this suggests that the kernel may play a part too.
