I assume it saves that somewhere, but maybe only in memory. Have you tried restarting the desktop or rebooting to clear it?

How are you doing that differently than the options you list below that aren't working?

But I can not use "su" or "beesu" to start it
from a user's account:

(virt-manager:28209): Gtk-WARNING **: 12:39:57.414: cannot open display: :0.0

The root user doesn't have permission to access your display. You could use xhost to allow it if you want.
