Why do you want to use a complicated solution instead of the simple
tool? I could easily make a bash script to do it, but what's the point?


Portability.  Ability to run on live systems, cell phones with termux and datamash and R are not installed, or there is not enough space to install them :)

Ok, here you go, using only bash and bc. It calculates it both ways, first the mathematical way that R and datamash do and then the splitting values method.
