I decided to stick with XFCE and I removed mate... But I cant figure
out how to get back to using Light DM..

I ran these commands:
https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2018/fedora-switch-display-manager/
( top of page )
and rebooted but my PC is still using GDM even though I ran the disable
GDM command.
I haven't followed this whole thread so hopefully you haven't already check this...
Did you do anything manually, like setting up service files or manually creating symbolic links in /etc/systemd/system? If so, that would override what's in /usr/lib/systemd/system.
