I see that there is pidgen, but what else?
I always found pidgin to be the best instant messenger. Simple, small
GUI that didn't take over your entire screen with crap. And you could
turn off all the crap that others tried to use in their messages (like
unreadable fonts in unreadable colours).
I have not used pidgin for a really long time, but can it do video and audio? There used to be something called jitsi (and I am not sure that it is OSS) but I have never used it.
I only need chatting from Jabber.
The IETF has used Jabber for a very long time. We have our on
conferencing software, Meetecho, but it is designed for broadcasting a
live meeting with remote user participation. It was not uncommon for
attendees to be physically in one session and following another in
Meetecho and asking questions via Jabber to that session's Jabber Scribe.
For this IETF, they are using WebEX. Its chat is considered limited and
Jabber is being recommended for submitting questions to the chairs and
presenters.
We also have our own Etherpad for note takers. Multiple note takes are
supported.
I see Pidgin is actually already installed. So now I need to connect it
to the IETF Jabber servers.
If you want to "see me" join the Wednesday DRIP session (Drone Remote ID
Protocol, the IETF has a reputation of having fun with workgroup
names). I am presenting my Crowd Sourced Remote ID protocol.
take care.
