It's no real surprise (to me) that you might have to adjust a few settings. Clicking on a HTTP or HTTPS link would probably be best handled by a web browser, but clicking on a FTP link by something else, and on a HTML *file* might want browser &/or editor options. The technique to manage all that might be messy for some systems.
