You can blacklist the Nouveau driver in the kernel boot line using e.g.
modprobe.blacklist=nouveau rd.blacklist=nouveau
Try editing the boot menu entry by hitting 'e' when the menu appears at
boot, then adding the above to the line starting 'linux' and hit Ctrl-x
If this works, the problem is with the Nouveau driver.
