Yes, you would have to use the EFI mode in qemu to do the install.
You might also have to create an entry in the real BIOS with efibootmgr
to be able to boot it, although it should automatically be created for
you if the BIOS boots off the disk without having an entry. The boot
system is setup to detect that situation and create the entry for you.
