Yes, you get them all, but you don't see them all, only the various threads (or their subject lines). The individual messages are hidden behind the thread. If you don't care about the topic, you delete the whole thread in one go. If you do, you open the thread and see all its messages there, in one place, not mixed up with your other mails.
