I take it from this by "read-only" you mean you can read the samba share from the Linux
side but you can't write. And this has been the case since "forever".  Yes? 

Also, iPhones had no issue until recently.  Yes?

Well, sounds more like a samba configuration issue than anything.  Have you looked at the
samba logs at all?
