Please advise what to do.  A fallback is to pull the rtl8192e out of one of my x120e
units.  But I rather get this one working.

Sounds like you should set up the rpmFusion repos and install broadcom-wl

Installed (already had rpmfusion repos).  Rebooted.  My SSID is listed.  Went to connect and provided the WPA-PSK and connection failed.  I see the  following messages:
