First thing is to power the machine down. Put on an anti-static band,
ground yourself to the chassis of the box and pop your memory sticks out
and reseat them.

To test RAM, boot a Fedora installation CD. One of the boot items is
memtest86, so run that to see if RAM is the issue. It's amazing how
often reseating the RAM sticks fixes flakiness.

Another common issue is a failing power supply, which can manifest
itself in all kinds of weird ways. Unless you have sufficient testing
gear (which I have, but I'm weird and started life as a hardware
engineer), you really can only check this is by substituting a new power
supply. They're generally not that expensive. Just make sure you get one
that's got the same wattage rating or higher.
