If you use a web interface, you'll need some sort of backend to talk to the process, so Java or Perl or PHP or something will need to be boinked in. Alternately, if the process runs from the command line and will respond to command line input, you could run it in a screen session and attach to that session when you need to bugger it. Simple ssh access to the machine would be all that's needed in that case.
