Are you saying you boot to a text login, login as yourself, and then start your
desktop with "startxfce4"?
If that is the case, don't start it. Just login and issue the commands I mentioned.
Unless you cd, or ls, or anything to touch the directory that is to be automounted it
shouldn't try to mount it.

Ok, I had to use systemctl show /mnt/testb.automount, status produced
nothing. And the resulting screen/font was too small for me to read, and
