I dug up a couple of text messages from February with 3gp video clips
and they have the same small display problem so something has changed
here in VLC. /I have only had this problem with .3gp files. Mov clips
work.
It is VLC ver. 3.0.3.
I needed chrome to run another PTZ camera for the functions that
control movement, pan and tilt. I wonder if that has changed something
in the VLC configuration? Perhaps I can set the configuration aside
and it will build anew?
I'll look at that tomorrow.

I deleted "/home/bobg/.config/vlc/vlcrc"
[bobg@Box10 ~]$ ll /home/bobg/.config/vlc/vlcrc*
-rw-------. 1 bobg bobg 90291 Jun 26 11:16 /home/bobg/.config/vlc/vlcrc
-rw-------. 1 bobg bobg 90338 Jun 25 18:06 /home/bobg/.config/vlc/vlcrc.orig
After which I could convert .3gp to either .mp4 or .mov with ffmpeg and
zoom/fullscreen them to a large size, could not do that before, also now
play a .3gp with an enlarged display. So what ever has happened has
corrupted the original config/vlc/vlcrc in some way it seems?
I will continue to work with this but appreciate comments or suggestions,
