I have a fully updated F27 system running in a VM. lshw and lshw-gui both work OK.
How about running "strace lshw"?
That produces a 75 page pdf and sending a copy is a problem since I
don't understand how to use "pastebin."
Also dmesg produces nothing but a similar list of garbage on this F27
and the same on an Fedora 28 box but I've been saving that problem for
later.
I believe both lshw and dmesg work as expected on the Fedora 27 server
which has not been updated for a few days if that has any bearing on my
problems.
All of this is moot anyway since what I really wanted was physical
serial numbers so I could identify the drives, both the same model ...
smartctl was the command I needed.
