Seriously? This discussion comes up regularly. In most cases online
updates work, but sometimes there are issues. Read the past threads
for more info, but it's an extremely hard problem to make it always
work for very obvious reasons when you think about what's happening.
There have always been times, particularly with driver updates and
particularly early in a release where things just don't work after an
update and reboot is required.
That is part of the reason I normally wait at least 3 mo after a new
release comes out to move to it. But this time fan failures on my old
system (regularly getting to 100C and shutting off) forced me to another
unit and the current release.
