The problem with some man pages is that they're written in an overly terse fashion as though they're just meant as a reminder for people who already understand the program but just can't remember an option that they don't often need. Personally, I recommend that newcomers to Linux read the page for uname, free, or some other simple utility first just to get a feel for what they look like and what you can expect from them. Then, if you ever have to RTFM on ls, dnf or some other program with multiple scads of options and/or command line arguments it won't be quite as intimidating.
