I've been happily using the mate desktop until yesterday when, after an upgrade to F27, I decided to give gnome3 another chance. Knock on wood, all seems well, except that the screen does not lock.
It doesn't automatically lock after being idle, it doesn't lock when you press Super-L, it doesn't lock when you press the lock button, something else, or all of the above? Are you running Gnome as root?
I always boot to level 3, so I start X at the command line with startx. I also know that I have to start gnome-screensaver when X starts, and I tried to do so from gnome-tweak-tool -> startup applications, but I don't see it listed. What's the proper way to start gnome-screensaver whith startx?
Gnome-shell has a built-in screen locker, gnome-screensaver isn't used any more.
