Assuming that there's nothing else using the same initials, GDM is the Gnome Display Manager. In essence, it's the default logon screen that's installed when you do a Gnome desktop installation, and it starts up the desktop session. However, it can also be used to log into another desktop (you get a menu of which desktop to start). And the converse is true, another desktop manager can be used to start a Gnome session. You can install more than one display manager, and choose which one you want to be run. A list of just a few others: KDM, KDE XDM, a bare-bones X display manager LXDM, for LXDE SDDM -- [tim@localhost ~]$ uname -rsvp Linux 4.14.13-200.fc26.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Jan 11 05:43:34 UTC 2018 x86_64 Boilerplate: All mail to my mailbox is automatically deleted. There is no point trying to privately email me, I only get to see the messages posted to the mailing list. Television should really come with an intelligence knob. I've tried adjusting the brightness, but it didn't help. _______________________________________________ users mailing list -- users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send an email to users-leave@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
