Bonjour,

I have an nvidia card Geforce 8800GT and want to add another one:
Geforce 1050 GTX.

Problem: the 8800GT needs a driver 340.104, the 1050GTX, the 384.111 driver.

How can I conciliate these two drivers?

Will nouveau driver able to have these two cards working correctly?

nouveau driver works fine with nvidia cards but proprietary drivers are
better, so I am wondering how to use these cards with the proprietary
drivers.

Thank you for any advice if someone has some experience of this situation.

Question: I have an Nvidia video/hdmi sound-video card, type GF108 (GeForce GT630). If I upgrade to the new kernel to solve the Meltdown and Spectre problems, will it hose the Nvida drivers?
I DO NOT want Nouvou!  Please advise.

This depends on whether you have installed binary driver packages or source code packages and where from. If you have installed the binary packages, then whether or not the driver will continue to work depends on how quickly the maintainer can build the driver to cater for the new kernel. I've switched from the rpmfusion repositories for nvidia to negativo because the later was more responsive to kernel changes.

I have also switched from the binary drivers to the source code drivers interfacing to either akmod or dkms as these will auto rebuild the driver when a new kernel is installed, but even with these it still depends on how responsive the maintainer is to catering for functionality movement in the kernel as to how long it is before the driver will work with the new kernel.

Steve
