I'm running the same setup, are you talking about the url in a new tab? I have the humble new tab extension and I see a url in the new tab window

I don't see this.  What is the URL?  If you do CTRL-L, it will focus the URL bar and select everything.  At that point, you can just type whatever you want and it will replace what's there.  That's what I usually use.
