I got a driver from the https://github.com/klirichek/zj-58 repo mentioned in that post and it works with the thermal printer I have.

What gives more clues is the small piece of thermal paper that came
with the printer with a printout of its self-test (surely from
Windows).

The one I have does a print test if I hold the button on it.
