But at the normal login screen, after typing in your login name, there's a small widget that you can click on next to the "Sign in" button to pull up a list of possible window sessions. One of them is "Gnome on Xorg, eg:Silvia is recommending you login and select the "Gnome on Xorg" session and that will use the Gnome on top of X11.
