Having said that, the whole BASH config file conglomeration does not look pretty to me. Let's say that I want to make an alias that all users can use. I'm not sure where it goes, bashrc or profile. less /etc/bashrc # /etc/bashrc # System wide functions and aliases # Environment stuff goes in /etc/profile Okay, having read that, I'll go look at /etc/profile. It seems to suggest that aliases go in /etc/profile. less /etc/profile # /etc/profile # System wide environment and startup programs, for login setup # Functions and aliases go in /etc/bashrc It seems to suggest that aliases go in /etc/bashrc. There's some shockingly bad grammar in those opening descriptions. I can't really tell if the bashrc description is meant to say this file is for system wide functions and aliases, profile is for environment stuff. It looks like one long badly typed sentence.
