I also fired up that virtual machine with the netinstall boot cd and checked out what it would do on a default install and it did not set the /boot partition to be LVM but it let me use the pull down to switch it over to LVM for /boot.

Great! Thank you for doing the experiment! I was asking because I tried that and failed, but the issue turned out to be UEFI/Legacy issue. I will try that next install.
