I believe you can set the priority in the fstab.. last > column if memory serves. 0 no check, 1 first, 2 after first. Apparently the default value is -1 on my partitions which according to the manual means "If max-mount-counts is 0 or -1, the number of times the filesystem is mounted will be disregarded by e2fsck(8) and the kernel." So I guess that fsck is then ran only in case of problems?
