Just to the left of the "Discard" button there is a "drop-down" menu.  When you click
on the little down-arrow ( ˅ ) there is a "Preferences" section which allows you
different options. 

I have "Set save action to last used save method" in General and in Save Options I
have specified where I want to save as well as the default pattern for the file. 

When the "save as" dialog comes up I have the option to change the name of the file.

Seems like that is something you want to do?
