But trying to go through port 9090 is not going to work, I need to go through the ssh port first.

In that case you'll need to provide additional information. If the computer is on the same subnet than ssh shouldn't be necessary. If it's truly a "remote computer" then yes, you can use ssh with port mapping (the -L option IIRC).
