Thus, they may wish to have the Linux side, using open source software, checking for virus in the event someone using Windows either doesn't have a virus scanner installed or doesn't keep their virus definitions updated as well as they should. Additionally, some people run mail servers on their systems and serve a community of users that would like incoming emails to be scanned for infected emails prior to delivery.
