Thank you Tom and Ed for taking the time to help. My F25 was upgraded
from F24, where nfs was working perfectly (as well as in all versions
before that). Here is my configuration:

$ cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 25 (Twenty Five)

$ rpm -q nfs-utils
nfs-utils-2.1.1-5.rc3.fc25.x86_64

$ cat /etc/sysconfig/nfs | grep -v "#"

All that was on the nfs server (called alpha). On another machine now:

> mount | grep alpha
-hosts on /net/alpha/data type autofs
(rw,relatime,fd=13,pgrp=1160,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,offset,pipe_ino=21376)
-hosts on /net/alpha/opt type autofs
(rw,relatime,fd=13,pgrp=1160,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,offset,pipe_ino=21376)

yet

> cd /net/alpha/opt

hangs indefinitely. So does systemctl stop/start nfs-server.service on
the nfs server.
