and the text/html ...

In Thunderbird's left column click one your account name, something like
walt@yourdomain. On the right look for "View Settings for this
Account". In the window that opens look for "Composition & Addressing".
The top line of the window that opens offers, "Compose messages in
HTML format". Uncheck that and you'll be on your way to list nirvana.
