I think we're talking KDE here.  If so....

Right click on the little triangle next to the clock.  Pick "System Tray
Settings".   Go to "Entries" and check the Visibility of Networks.

If not KDE, then what desktop?

Yes.  But sometimes, depending on the height of your taskbar it can be
difficult to see.
