Hi, Robert, Do you see any errors related to USB or /dev/sdb when running tail -n 1000 /var/log/messages ? if you do - can you post them here please ? One option I would consider to try is (assuming your main hard disk is *not* a USB device but ordinary SATA ) to rmmod and modprobe the USB disk driver (if you know it's name), and also rmmod usb-storage and modprobe usb-storage, and see if you see /dev/sdb* afterwards, and also look in the kernel log (tailf /var/log/messages) when running this sequence.
