If you check over at the KDE mailing list you'll find a discussion on the issue you describe. Updates to plasma 5.8.6-2 and 5.8.6-3 as well as kf5 16.12.2-1 has cleared up the problem for most, if not all, who have run into it. Not sure if these have been pushed to stable as of yet.
