I definitely bet it is blurry!
After reading that page, I can't believe what kind of craziness is suggested in the GNOME section:
using scaling-factor and then partially compensating with xrandr.
The final result for subpixel antialiased text must be horrific.

Involving additional post-processing with "sharpness" is the final touch.
