It may be that xrandr isn't appropriate for use in Wayland. I googled "wayland xrandr" and the results didn't appear promising. (Rather late in the day for me....and a Friday :-) ) As I saw comments like "xrandr is read-only with Wayland". I believe you may be using GNOME.
