Ahh, OK....  You are using "Wayland" and not "Xorg".

I run KDE with Xorg and have no experience with Wayland.  It may be that xrandr isn't
appropriate for use in Wayland.

I googled "wayland xrandr" and the results didn't appear promising.  (Rather late in the
day for me....and a Friday  :-)  )  As I saw comments like "xrandr is read-only with Wayland".

I believe you may be using GNOME.  If so, I'd try logging out and logging back in with
GNOME under Xorg instead of the default which is now Wayland.
