This is just a notice for those who may care. I installed Fedora 23 on a Dell Inspiron 17 laptop. If I use the latest kernel, 4.6.6-200, the screen flickers incessantly except when the touchpad is used to move the cursor. If I use a slightly older kernel, 4.5.7-202, everything works fine.
On a similar note, I bought an Inspiron 11 3162. I couldn't get any supported version of Fedora to run on it. Ended up having to go with Ubuntu 14.04 as that was the most recent supported major distro I could get to work. As soon as KMS started, the screen would go black and the system would hang. Shame, as I'd thought intel chipsets were generally well behaved with Linux. It would run in VESA mode but it was so dog slow, I couldn't use for playing anything I bought it for.
