OS upgrade via SSH

What's the status on being able to upgrade a server via SSH?  I've upgraded a couple of Ubuntu servers that way, but how about Fedora? This is a pretty plain server, just used for storing data. No third party repos, etc.  

Is it considered moderately safe? Or should I avoid like the plague?
