going to be looking for advice on getting fedora 24 running on ASUS G752VL-DH71

a while back, i asked about some issues getting a fully functioning
fedora 23 running on my ASUS G752VL-DH71 gaming laptop (i don't
actually do any gaming, i just wanted the horsepower for a build
machine):

i'm about to do a fresh install of fedora 24 on the same machine, and
i still have some outstanding issues that are probably solvable on the
current f23 that, if i can fix now, the same solution will almost
certainly still hold for f24.

so here are some questions if anyone has off-the-cuff solutions:

1) how do i get the backlit keyboard to, you know, backlight? i
normally plug in a USB keyboard and, using "xset led", i can get
*that* keyboard backlight on. but i have no idea how to get the
laptop's own keyboard backlit.

2) this laptop has a displayport connector -- is that port fully
supported in fedora 24?

3) this thing also has a USB-C thunderbolt port, of which i know
nothing; what sort of support can i expect for that? (not even sure
what i would use it for yet.)

4) just got a deal on a samsung v-nand 950 pro SSD:

haven't had time to plug it in yet, can anyone confirm that that is
supported? i was *assured* by the dude at frys electronics that it
would work.

5) oh, and i was about to complain that the cooling fans on this thing
are always on full blast even when i'm not doing anything but,
suddenly, they're quiet. i'm kind of shocked, did proper thermal
support suddenly come with the latest "dnf update" kernel? i'm
deliriously happy about that, i just wasn't expecting it.

oh, i'm reading the online manual here:

http://www.manualslib.com/manual/1076799/Asus-G752v.html

so if anyone else is running f24 on one of the asus gaming laptops and
wants to swap config/setup stories, i'm all ears.
