I don't see what Gnome has to do with a VPN server, but at a minimum
you might want to say which specific VPN system you're talking about.

poc

Having a similar problem with my *openconnect* VPN sessions (in a gnome session): the username won't be saved, but the password is saved.
I am potentially having a similar problem with Openvpn which I have to use for my vpn service as the vendor doesn't provide a linux client, but instead provide instructions on how to set up Openvpn under linux to connect. The instructions are aimed at Ubuntu, but most of it applied to Fedora as well. I set up my wireless network and vpn connection under networkmanager in Plasma where they are both working quite happily. What I am not sure of at the moment is whether even though the password fields show the normal mask character, the password is actually stored in the networkmanager definition or in Kwallet. If I logout of Plasma and log into Gnome, networkmanager can see both network definitions but neither is connected. If I manually connect to the wireless networkmanager definition I am prompted for the wireless password, which when supplied the connection takes place. If I manually connect the vpn networkmanager definition I get prompted for the vpn password, which I haven't supplied as I have to look up emails to find it. I would have expected that if you set up networkmanager definitions under any desktop they would work across all desktops, as I would have expected networkmanager to have the same functionality across all desktops.

Steve
