"Not forced to use the console", but you are using it? Can't you just
use the KDE network configuration tool? I assume there is one, but I
use Gnome so I can't help you with that.
The question is why didn't NetworkManager automatically configure the
interface. Did you disable it?

I used to edit a file called something like /etc/network*/interface
and then I could change the default DHCP setting to be static and the
default disabled (off) setting to be enabled (on).
That sounds like the Debian does network config.
Look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. There should be a file called
ifcfg-enp0s8. That contains the configuration. If it doesn't exist,
then create one. Hopefully you can find a template with the information
to put in it.
