Is there an dnf downloadable application that will permit me to
extract only one, or a few, of the pictures in my camera? The only
application I have that works well for me is gphoto2 and it seems
to do all or nothing.

This morning I needed to snap a picture to put into a message but
first I had to download 262 images when all I cared about was the
last six I had just taken. Perhaps I don't know the proper
command?

Any suggestionsappreciated,

Hi, you could also have a look at Rawtherapee and Darktable if you
need a photo editor as well.
Can't you just let the system mount it as an external drive? if so,
you could browse the folders and copy out just the file you want.
I do that with my camera all the time.

I'm with Fred on this one. Apps may provide some convenience features, but you have to find the app, install it, learn how to use it, etc. Using what you already have seems simpler to me.

Anyway, the same applies to (Samsung android) phones as well. After plugging in my phone using a USB cable and "open device to view files", I browse with file explorer (Win7) to <mount/drive>/Phone/DCIM/Camera where all my pictures are easily available. I am sure you can do much the same from a Linux desktop.
