Two things: the camera probably has a setting to show how it presents itself to the computer, either as a disk drive or as a PTP (or MTP) device. If it's a disk drive, it should just mount, probably as a FAT or VFAT system. If it's MTP or PTP you need to install a Fuse module to mount it.
