I haven't upgraded my machines in a while and I couldn't find any
reference on how to install directly from the hard disk, without media.
Is this still possible? None of my pcs boot off of a usb stick and the
cdrom I think is failing on one of them, so I really need to install from
the disk. Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you don't mind waiting a while for the upgrades to occur and you have
internet access, you could always install Fedup if it is not already
installed and run that to upgrade your system to the latest version of
Fedora. As I understand it that is the current recommended method of
system upgrading.
Fedup works by placing a boot entry in grub.cfg which on a subsequent
boot you select and it will then boot into an install mode an download
all the necessary files from the fedora repositories for the version of
Fedora you are upgrading to over the net. The only drawback to this
method is it can take a long time depending on the speed of your
internet connection.
