Assuming you're using disk image files
rather than partitions or LVs for
your VM disks, my guess is that the
disk images for your VMs are what's
eating your space.
The images typically go in
/var/lib/libvirt/images, although you can
specify the location when you create
your images. You can find them by
looking at the various configuration
"*.xml" files in /etc/libvirt/qemu
and looking for the
<devices>
<disk type='file' device='disk'>
<driver name='somedrivername'
type='imagetype'/>
<source
file='/path/to/image/file'>
items. Locate the images and copy them
to an appropriate spot on the new
drive and update the .xml files
appropriately.

Yes that helps, it gives me confidence
in what I did to put the image in that
vm yesterday. I wasn't certain after
messing with the vmm GUI for a while to
get it to work. I used the vm from this
computer, put it in
/var/lib/libvirt/images, a centos.qcow2
file.
I will save
/var/lib/libvirt/images/centos.qcow2 to
the spare 40GB disk as a matter of
convenience. Those large files take time
to transfer over my ethernet LAN.
