In that case you want to set the option ErrorPolicy to retry-job. It means that if the printer times out (bad cable) cups will try again, instead of just halting permanently. You should see 'enabled' or 'disabled' somewhere in 'lpstat -t' If you have tried a different cable, you can try a different URI: 'lpadmin -p HP_LaserJet_1300 -v parallel://dev/usb/lp0'. The point is to just try a different protocol, and hopefully different error tolerances. Don't use parallel: or file: if you have more than one USB printer.
