Your Ethernet card will operate allways at its maximum speed (100Mbps if Fast Ethernet or 1000 Mbps if Gigabit Ethernet with Cat5e or Cat6 cable), until it reaches your Moderm/Router that connects you to your ISP, there is the bottleneck, from your Modem/Router to "the cloud".
